Xinyuyan
Xinyuyan is a work-in-progress constructed language that follows a different approach from all the popular conlangs. Currently, this site holds a Reference for the defined symbols, and a list of Sentences in this language.
Priorities
The priorities of the Xinyuyan project are to create a language that:
- Arises through communication and negotiation;
- Is mostly internally consistent and easy to learn;
- Resists semantic shift better than natural languages do;
- Exposes the confusions in natural languages that result from e.g. weak logical capabilities of the average speaker;
- Enables users to discuss emerging phenomena, such as those relating to LLMs, with no scare quotes.
When a paradox or other issue shall arise, the Xinyuyan project applies a few principles to resolve them. The principles are:
- To focus on one Layer of the immediate context, and refrain from mixing concepts from different Layers;
- To judge the nature of a Token based on purpose and practical function of objects, for example, Xinyuyan on The Ship of Theseus says that the fully restored ship is the Ship of Theseus as long as it continues to fulfill the same functions as before the restoration, although a sentence may also emphasize which aspects of the ship has changed compared to before the restoration.
